What is a Photofractional?
Photofractional is simply our IPL procedure, followed by our ResurFX procedure. Yes, you can do both treatments on the same day for maximum results!
What is IPL?
Intense Pulse Light (abbreviated IPL) describes the use of intense pulses of non-coherent light distributed over a range of wavelengths; from 400nm to 1200nm. The technology utilizes specific wavelength ranges to target various chromophores in the skin. This enables effective treatment of a broad spectrum of conditions, including vascular and pigmented lesions, skin photoaging treatments and hair removal.
What is ResurFX?
The Lumenis® ResurFX™ treatment enables us to offer you remarkably healthier, radiant and more youthful skin. ResurFX is optimally tailored to address even the early signs of aging with noticeable results for fine lines, skin texture and overall skin appearance.
The Lumenis ResurFX is the latest in non-ablative, fractional laser technology to improve skin discoloration, stretch marks, acne scars, wrinkles and more. Non-ablative means it does not destroy or ablate the skin cells, while fractional means it is only affecting a fraction or percentage of the skin. The benefit of the ResurFX is that it is able to get great results with minimal recovery time unlike the CO2 laser, which has several days or more of peeling, crusting and possible swelling after the procedure. The optimum benefits of ResurFX are obtained with several treatments depending on the condition and desired results.
How will I look after my treatment?
Some patients may leave their appointments with slightly pink, mildly swollen, and warm skin. Most of these symptoms pass on their own within 1-2 days and can easily be concealed with makeup. You can also expect temporary dryness and darkening of your sunspots which slough off in 5-7 days, leaving your skin clean and bright.
PRE & POST INSTRUCTIONS:
PRE-TREATMENT
- Patients are encouraged to pre-treat skin with our HQ kit for 2-4 weeks prior to their first treatment.
- Avoid irritant topical agents (AHA, BHA, Retinol), including our HQ kit, for 3-4 days prior to treatment.
- Avoid tanning/excessive sun exposure for 4 weeks prior to treatment.
- Avoid applying makeup on the day of treatment.
- If patient has a history of Herpes Simplex, patient will be prescribed oral antiviral medication.
POST-TREATMENT
- Mild erythema and skin sensitivity may occur up to 7 days.
- Avoid direct sun exposure for 2-3 weeks.
- Gentle moisturizers and sunblock must be applied daily.
- Avoid using hot showers/baths/saunas/exercise for the first 24 hours following treatment.
